Tier 4 Restrictions and the UK Screen Alliance Guidance
After a turbulent 72 hours of the tightening restrictions, here is an update of where that leaves the post-production and VFX sector.
Even in areas where the highest measures are in place, such as the new Tier 4 in London and the South East, there are no new restrictions on post-production and VFX businesses providing they meet Covid-secure guidelines. If work cannot be performed at home, post & VFX workers may travel to work on the premises even if that requires crossing to and from areas in higher tiers.
DCMS have confirmed that filming can continue, even to the extent that some venues and businesses that would normally be required to close have been given an exemption to specifically permit filming.
The Gov.uk guidance on Tier 4 restrictions is here.
The restrictions will be reviewed by the end of the month, but it seems highly likely that they will prevail well into the new year.
The latest version of the UK Screen Alliance guidance is available on the Screen Alliance website.
One piece of very good news is that the government have extended the Film & TV Production Restart Scheme which provides an insurance indemnity against Covid disruption. The £500m scheme was due to end in February but the deadline for registration is now 30th April and claims will be able to be submitted up to the end of November for losses incurred up until the end of June 2021.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our editors and clients a wonderful festive season despite and fingers crossed for a better 2021!
We will be available on over the holiday season.
