With the World Cup fast approaching, we have seen a few football series being made and this one is set to be a real heart warming one!

Save Our Squad sees David Beckham return to his East London roots to mentor Westward Boys, a young, grassroots team who are at the bottom of their league, facing relegation. However, this isn’t just any league… this is the same league that David played in as a young boy. Working with the head coaches, he’ll try to turn the team’s fortunes around. From heroics to heartbreak, failure to redemption, the experiences that Westward Boys, their coaches and their families will go through over the course of the season, are ones they’ll never forget. Abraham edited episode 3.  Perhaps Ab’s can ask David Beckham to help mentor him with his fantasy team and move him up the Satusfaction league….?

FIFA Uncovered

Ventureland for Netflix

Editor: Graham Taylor

Streaming from 9th Nov

In less than a month’s time, Qatar will become the first ever middle eastern country to host the FIFA World Cup. Qatar’s successful bid to host the World Cup has proven to be one of the most controversial moments in the history of the sport. This feature documentary explores accusations of bribery, money laundering, racketeering and tax evasion from footballs governing body FIFA. Netflix promises to reveal never before heard interviews with senior officials, new details surrounding disgraced President Sepp Blatter, decades of dirty politics  and much, more.

The talented editor Graham Taylor who worked documentary said “ A great experience editing the finale of such a sprawling and complex subject. Director Daniel Gordon expertly managed 4 editors working in different corners of the country, allowing us all enough freedom to follow our instincts whilst keeping us heading in same direction. Using hundreds of interviews and limitless archive, we took on one of the most complex subjects of our time. Audacious and at the same time very hard to pin down; corruption in football is all about power and money, but also about evading accountability, and it’s the leadership culture of FIFA that we focused our story around. FIFA is a success story like no other, and football is the one thing can unite the world. Perhaps we’ll never know the true cost of the sordid actions of the kleptocracy that overseas it, but we do see a form of justice served to those responsible in this series. It was my task to tie up the many strands unravelled in 4 episodes and land us in the present day, on the eve of the Qatar World Cup, perhaps no greater symbol of the good, and bad, that FIFA brings to the world”.

FIFA Uncovered will be released on Netflix on the  9th November.

The Royal Mob

Editors: Rich Lester and Richard ( Huggy) Lace

Exec Producer: Ben Goold

Nutopia for Sky History and / A&E Networks

The Royal Mob explores how the royal family once ruled the whole of Europe, and how their loves, marriages and feuds dragged the continent into the world’s first total war and violent revolution. The series will lift the lid on the family tensions which set cousin against cousin and sister against sister, and saw millions plunged into World War One. The series combines premium scripted drama with testimony from expert historians.

Skins co-creator Jamie Brittain and Ten Percent’s Abigail Wilson managed the show’s scripted elements. Their work is combined with the historical expertise of academic and broadcaster Dabiri (Hair Power: Me and My Afro), Young Stalin author Sebag Montefiore and academics Priya Atwal (Royals and Rebels) and Miranda Carter (Three Emperors).

Huggy worked across all four episodes and really enjoyed working on the series, particularly with the well shot drama elements.  He found it an interesting series about the lead up to the Great War.

Rich Lester worked on episodes 1 and 4. He said “The mix of Interview, drama and archive was a fun challenge to balance, it was great fun to craft the drama aspects too”

This brand new doco- drama series will premiere on Monday 7th November 2022 at 9pm on Sky History and A&E Networks

Limitless

Editor: Jamie Williams

Exec Producer: Arif Nurmohamed

Nutopia for Disney +

Bundle of goodness and global movie star Chris Hemsworth takes viewers on a rollercoaster personal journey as he explores how to combat aging and discover the full potential of the human body.

From Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, Jane Root’s Nutopia, and Chris Hemsworth and Ben Grayson’s newly formed Wild State, “Limitless” puts cutting-edge science of human longevity centre-stage. Part global scientific adventure, part personal journey, each episode of the series follows Chris as he takes up a gauntlet of physical and mental feats designed by world-class experts, scientists and doctors to unlock different aspects of the aging process. Each meticulously crafted challenge is rooted in game-changing science, drawing on new research and long-held traditions. Chris’ mission is to understand the limits of the human body better and discover ways we can all extend health and happiness into old age.

Keeping himself in peak physical condition and best known for portraying an immortal superhero, Chris has always taken care of his health and fitness. But, now in his late 30s, he wants to find out how to harness the potential of his mind and body to stay sharper, stronger and healthier for longer — not only for himself and his children but for his children’s children too. Each challenge pushes Chris further than he has ever gone before. Through the series, viewers will learn techniques they can use to improve their health and enhance their own lives.

Jamie Williams spent nine months editing the ‘Memory’ episode. Reflecting on the episode he said “The main aim of the edit was to take a film that had a big action hook and turn it into something that was reflective and cerebral. The biggest challenge was finding a way to represent something that’s very difficult to film – our memories. By mixing a dreamy, filmic approach with an effect heavy edit, we built a film that hopefully lures the audience into Chris Hemsworth’s mind, dialling into the nostalgia of youth and showing how important our earliest memories can be to who we are”.

We’re really looking forward to watching this one. The series will be available on 16th November on Disney+

Banged Up Abroad

S15Ep6: Fighting Yaba

Raw for Nat Geo

Tuesday 25th October – 9pm

Directed and edited by Phil Bowman

Phil Bowman directed and edited tonight’s episode of drama-documentary Banged up Abroad. In the episode Liverpudlian Billy Moore moves to Thailand to start a new, happier life, but instead he gets addicted to the drug Yaba and loses control. Phil found the episode was a great creative challenge as in addition to all the action and danger that audiences are used to in a Banged Up Abroad, Billy’s story is really about his battles with himself. In the end Phil thought this episode has become a discussion of the dangers of toxic masculinity and aspiring to be a good parent.

Watch this gripping and heartfelt retelling of a true story at 9pm on Nat Geo HD (Sky 129)
