24 Hours in Police Custody is back for an eleventh series. It’s critically acclaimed and more popular with audiences than ever. Ella Newton edited Episode 2. New episodes every Sunday 9pm on Channel 4.
Robyn Wright started editing this two-part edition of the award-winning This World strand back in May. It looks back at the unsolved disappearance of 43 Mexican students in the infamous Iguala mass kidnapping incident in 2014.
On the evening of 26 September 2014, 43 students were attacked on their way to a protest in Mexico City. They were forced off passenger buses, never to be seen again. The young trainee teachers’ disappearance and the botched investigation which followed triggered protests and outrage in Mexico and abroad.
This documentary hears how federal investigators initially blamed corrupt local police and a local drug cartel for the attacks, but in the weeks and months that followed, civil unrest grew as the parents of the missing boys became increasingly suspicious of the official investigation.
Featuring survivors, families of the missing and exclusive interviews with Tomás Zerón De Lucio, the fugitive former head of the Mexican Criminal Investigation Agency (CIA) and Omar Gómez Trejo, the exiled former special prosecutor.
We spoke with Robyn about the challenges of the edit. She said that “It was a fantastic story to work on and something I feel proud to be a part of. The biggest challenge was to be working on something where 75% of the characters were Spanish speakers and I don’t speak Spanish. Also creating a structure that was based on a drama thriller genre for a story that was factual and stretched over nine years. Keeping it suspenseful and dramatic, was also quite challenging. And of course, schedules!”.
Part one of Disappeared: Mexico’s Missing 43 will be on Thursday 7th December 9pm on BBC Two.

Joe Swanson edited episode 2 and he said that he was “proud to have been part of such an important series”.

This new series from Studio Lambert and The Garden is the biggest reality competition ever! Squid Game: The Challenge is based on the South Korean Netflix drama, this time it isn’t a matter of life or death but there’s still a lot on the line! 456 players will compete to win $4.56 million, Netflix’s largest cash prize in reality television history. Through a series of games, each player will be pushed to their limits and forced to ask themselves just how far they’ll go to win, with opportunistic alliances, cutthroat strategies and timely betrayals to follow. Trust is challenged and characters are tested in this series of heart-stopping games to compete as sole survivor.
Tim Fielding worked on the series. He explained “The show was a real challenge (excuse the pun) in terms of production and edit. It was the largest cast of a reality show ever, 456 people, and that comes with many issues. Some technical, like mics and coverage, but also to being able to get to know characters & care about them amongst that many people. It was great to be part of a production with such scale, the sets are amazing and completely authentic to the drama, and some of the stories & action which happen through the series really are jaw-dropping”.
Gruff Lovgreen said ” it’s the biggest show I’ve worked on and I couldn’t get over the level of details in the set and the games. It’s so good and I can’t wait for people to finally see it!”
Green Light! Squid Game: The Challenge is coming 22nd November
This documentary series explores the rise and then dramatic downfall of the ‘superstar surgeon’ Paolo Macchiarini. In 2011, Macchiarini was heralded for revolutionizing transplant medicine with his groundbreaking alternative to organ donation , plastic windpipes that seemed like miracles to desperate patients. However, beneath the surface, Macchiarini’s deceitful actions led to excruciating deaths for all but one of his patients, who eventually had their plastic windpipe removed. A Swedish appeals court convicted Macchiarini and sentenced him to two-and-a-half years in prison. He has denied any criminal wrongdoing.
Macchiarini was also a prolific liar in his personal life. Reporter Benita Alexander, his former fiancée, unveils the shocking depths of his deception, where he falsely claimed connections to renowned public figures such as the Pope, the Clintons, the Obamas, Putin, and Elton John! She later helped to expose his lies.
This series, featuring the families of Macchiarini’s victims, former colleagues turned whistleblowers, and unprecedented revelations, delves into the relentless battle to hold Macchiarini accountable.
We caught up with Franco Bogino who edited Episode 1 and 2. He said “It was a great project to work on because it was one of Netflix’s more premium commissions, and I got to cut two of the three episodes. It’s so much more satisfying to be able to work across multiple episodes because you can really get into shaping the evolving narrative. The story was good, and getting the narrative structure right was quite a challenge because we had to weave different timelines together. It was great to work with Ben ( Steele) again, we did a string of films together previously, and then our schedules didn’t coincide for a few years. It’s always satisfying to work with someone that you have a good creative relationship with”.
Bad Surgeon: Love Under the Knife premieres on Netflix on 29th November.

A brand new ITVX premium true crime series will see Marcel Theroux investigate a set of disturbing, unsolved murders and reveal a dark and violent hidden side to the wealth and glamour of exclusive corners of London’s nightlife in the 1970s.
In this two-part documentary series, Theroux examines the brutal murders that shocked London 50 years ago, when Eve Stratford, a Playboy Bunny who aspired to be a famous model, Lynda Farrow, a croupier with years of experience working in night time London, and Lynne Weedon, a schoolgirl were all murdered. The documentary includes interviews with friends, colleagues and relatives of the victims and will provide intimate insight. Theroux attempts to track down police files, examines new breakthroughs and travels across the world in search of answers.
Rob Trela edited Episode 2. He said “Working with Marcel Theroux, the director Sam Miller, SP Melissa Mayne and editor Simon Clement to tell this story over two films was exceptional. Overall, this project had the best crew I’ve ever worked with as they were all very committed and talented in their craft”.
Teddy did some additional editing and he also enjoyed working with the director Sam. He said “Sam Miller the series director was very professional and easy to work with”.
Presenter Marcel Theroux said: “This is a story that has obsessed me for years. How could a serial killer kill multiple victims in 1970s London and remain unknown? What evidence was missed? What clues were the police of the time unable to make use of? As witnesses reach the ends of lives and memories fail, this might be the last chance to get justice for the three victims.”
The Playboy Bunny Murder is on ITV1 & ITVX at 9pm on Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th November
