Netflix are calling this this four-part documentary series raw, honest and real. This biopic docuseries looks at British pop superstar, Robbie Williams. One of the most iconic, and sometimes controversial British artists, Williams is the recipient of 18 Brit Awards, including Best British Male Artist four times. The series features hundreds of hours of intimate, never-before-seen personal archival footage, and intimate access to Williams himself. It covers the highs and lows of being in the limelight for more than 30 years. This includes Williams navigating media scrutiny throughout his career, adulation and addiction, professional and personal break-ups, reunions, recovery, and the impact they have had on his mental health.
Jamie Williams was the sole editor on Ep 1 and joint editor on Ep 2. He said “the biggest hurdle to scale was the amount of archive there was. As a project, the doc had thousands of hours over Robbie’s 30 year career and as editors we were given the time to go through all of it, form our thoughts and ideas and craft an overall story that could be told from these video time capsules. When the subject matter is mostly about what’s going on in someone’s head, that’s even more of a challenge! But it was rewarding to get my head around it all and find a way to tell that story”.
Robbie Williams is from Ridley Scott Associates and director Joe Pearlman (Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now) and executive produced by Asif Kapadia (AMY).
